Though the title of the story suggests our Capital Market, basically it is a live experience on market economics and the meaning of the word may be taken in a simple way like our old barter system.
My story is I believe may be your story or your every day experience as well.I am starting with 3 precious things present at my home one purchased after the other.1st one is a Voltas 1.5 ton AC for which I paid more than 40000 INR,then at the same time almost I purchased a Videocon Washing Machine paying nearing 6000 INR and lastly my most precious mobile T 610 in 2002 paying a good money which I do not remember.Recently I had been to a mobile shop to purchase a mobile for my son which he purchased and it was more sophisticated than mine.I said that mine had bluetooth, infrared and all facilities how much you will pay so that I can think for going for an exchange though I do not have nay problem with mobile. He said just 1000 bucks.I was down.
Few months before we changed the house. There was short circuit in the house and the AC was giving shock.Since my wife had been recently operated I thought of again going for an AC,but after exchanging this big heavy garbage(1.5 ton Windows AC of Voltas also will exceed that in weight)The shop keeper said the cost of split at 14000 and also said if the AC of mine worked then 3000 less.I came back with heavy heart thinking where was my 40000 and comparing the socalled 14000INR split and that too in windows it would be some thousand more less.Came home , I got a mechanic to see my AC if at all it worked. He saw and gave exper comments that he would take away the compressor since there was short circuit within and would give me a 2nd hand AC with 5 to 6000 cost, If AC would be repaired he would charge 12000 Rupees. Undecided, the garbage lie.Same thing with the Washing Machine. No resale value.Neither you can throw nor keep.
Come to Car.It is Maruti 800 purchased some what 7/8 years back.It has consumed lot of money on repair. The loan is also not fully repaid and to sell it I have to spend 15/20000 more and I would fetch hardly 5/6000 more or may be less even..
A situation has come, the AC occupies 1/5th of a room all insects within making it their happy abode.I can not keep nor throw.Same thing with Car or washing machine or my very costly mobile of 2002 now resale value 1000 INR of less just make me feel sad.The garrage man takes 800 INR PM for upkeep PM
Yes time has changed. There are lot of advancement.Even my laptop which I paid a big price comes now less than half the price with more advanced facilties.
I think I should onwards hire another room for these heritages where ever I go.The heavy fluctuations in price and specially in electronic and consumer items ,and after adding the pressure of family that this family bought this and that and how you are managing with old which at times does not work, make me feel simply helpless. With a fixed income can I cope up with the Exchange?Cards, credits all are good ,but the cost, interest are also not bad.
